Google Maps Creator Joins Facebook

CALIFORNIA – Lars Rasmussen, the founder of Google Maps and Google Wave  left the company to join with Facebook.

The man behind Google Wave and Google Maps has stopped working for Google in Australia and chose to join with Facebook. Kate Vale, head of YouTube in Australia has also left the company and reportedly will soon join with Facebook. Similarly, as quoted from the Telegraph on Wednesday (11/03/2010)

“For me, Facebook was like a company that its greatness is only one in 10 years,” said Rasmussen. He said the decision to end his  six-year career at Google came after he get an offering  from Mark Zuckerberg.

Google, however, cancel Google Wave earlier this year. The project is to develop a desktop communication tools, which ultimately failed to find popularity.

By combining instant messaging and e-mail, Google Wave trying to attract users into larger, though it is failed in the end.

Rasmussen now lives in Sydney but will start to work in San Francisco next month.

“Lars made a big contribution to Google in product innovations such as Google Maps and Google Wave. We wish the best for him,” said Alan Noble from Google Australia engineering director.
